Saponin

Saponin are divided into two type according to their aglycone, they are steroidal and triterpenoid saponin. Steroidal saponins are used as starting materials for synthesis of such compounds as the sex hormones, cortisone, vitamin D, and the cardiac glycosides. Meanwhile, the triterpenoid saponins are generally used for expectorant and antiinflamation.
